About Pastor Elliott
Elliott grew up in the Bay Area, then went down to UC Irvine for school. He obtained a B.A. in International Studies, and then ran his own clothing business in streetwear for two years. In 2014, Elliott thought he was living a pretty good life, then God prompted him to drop everything and go back home for 6 months to spend time in solitude and with his family. It was during this time that he felt the Lord calling him into Ministry. In 2015, Elliott moved to NYC to study at Alliance Theological Seminary, and do Youth Ministry at Queens Herald Church. In 2017, Elliott graduated from ATS with a Masters of Professional Studies in Christian Ministry and Church Development. He concluded his time in school and ministry at NY, and moved to CA to begin Pastoral Ministry in Worship at SJCAC.
Elliott’s passion is in calling people into deeper, holier relationship with God. He loves speaking to young people, to shake them from the “Christian normality” and status quo, and desires for people to become Spirit-filled lovers of God through the ministry of intercession and prophetic worship. He loves Peet’s French Roast, In-N-Out is never a bad idea, and hopes Carne Asada Fries will carry over into heaven.
English Assistant Pastor
About Pastor Douglas
Pastor Douglas was born and raised in Vietnam until the age of three. In Vietnam, his grandparents came to know the Lord through C&MA missionaries to the Chinese in Saigon at the time. While he and his family were at a refugee camp in Guam, other C&MA missionaries told them about a new Chinese church starting in San Jose, California, where one of their family members lived. Pastor Douglas was present at SJCAC on the first day it started back in October 1975. He came to learn about and love the Lord from the loving aunties and uncles of the church through Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Youth Group…a truly “homegrown” member. He obtained his B.S. in Physiology from UC Davis, an EMBA from Pepperdine University, and is currently taking classes at A. W. Tozer Seminary. He worked in the biotechnology industry for 23 years, running and managing clinical trials before transitioning to full-time ministry. He met his wife, Cheryl, at SJCAC, and they have three active and growing children, Josiah, Esther, and Enoch.
Sandy Kang was born in Korea and spent most of her childhood in the heart of Los Angeles. Upon completing her studies in Social Welfare at U.C. Berkeley, she pursued a M.A. in Religious Studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. There, she met her life partner Ted, who together have the privilege of raising four beautiful daughters. Raising young children at home, she began to dream and strategize how to make an impact in her children’s generation. This led her to birth Gateway Preschool Academy in the Fall of 2011. Since then, she has been involved in the spiritual formation and development of children and families both at the preschool and at the church.
Derrick Duong was born and raised in Vietnam. In 1989, he migrated to Sydney, Australia. In 1994, he moved to the States to marry Alcest, the soulmate of his youth. He ran his own business in financial services for 7 years. In 2002, he answered God’s calling to minister to Him full time in SJCAC. Ever since, he had been a faithful intercessor and prayer minister at church. He completed his advanced diploma in Biblical Studies at Biblical Life College & Seminary. His passion is to raise up prophetic prayer ministers and intercessors to speak of God’s glory and wonders, and to proclaim His excellencies, preparing the way for the return of the Lord Jesus.
David was born in Torrance, CA, moved to the Bay Area when he was 5 and has been attending San Jose Christian Alliance ever since. Growing up at SJCAC, David practiced generosity, compassion, holy living, and developed his theology from the Sunday School teachers as well as it’s weekly youth fellowship. After studying three years at DeAnza College, he transferred to complete his bachelors degree at the University of California, San Diego, graduating with an Economics Degree. In his time in San Diego, he was given the opportunity to lead a Bible study, where he began to encounter God and discovered God’s heart for the poor, lost, broken, and lonely. David currently studies Theology at A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary, where he hopes to refine his understanding of God’s Word and share his findings with the SJCAC Youth Fellowship, E2.
Operation and Development
After working at Visa for decades, God plucked him out of the industry, and plugged him into SJCAC to oversee the church’s operation and development. Eugene is passionate about anything that has to do process and procedures. 40+ years of experience in information technologies and database management prepared him well for his ministry at the church. Although he is gifted in high-level management and business administration, he is one of those people who don’t mind getting their hands and feet dirty. On any given day, you will find him painting the walls of church facility, fixing plumbing, and moving furniture around so that everyday operation of the church will run smoothly without a hiccup. Eugene is thrilled about what God is doing in this new season. He is passionate about people finding Jesus to live a wholesome and fruitful life. He enjoys hiking, running, and biking to enjoy nature; reading to enjoy learning; and sharing meals to enjoy with people.
