My name is Luz Gomez. I was born and raised in Medellin, Colombia. I grew up as a Catholic and studied Catechism in Catholic School.
Chantu Lee (from our English Congregation) and I were classmates in a Human Growth and Development Class at Mission College.
We had not seen each other since we completed the class in 2014. Last year, when I was taking a walk at the Redwoods in Scotts Valley with my grandson, I ran into Chantu. We chatted about the overwhelming problems I was facing at home and work. We exchanged phone numbers. Later I called Chantu and told her I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety…my heartbeat was irregular, my mind was cloudy, my husband was also sick, my grandson was in the Intensive Care Unit, and my boss was oppressing me. About 10 months ago, I was asked if I would consider taking Empower One class. The topics seem interesting, and I have been contemplating to take some classes to go deeper in my walk with the Lord. Honestly speaking I am a bit worried about whether I can fulfill the demands of the course load. This is not something I have been planning to do. I have been out of school for a long time, and I have not written papers for a while. Even though I like to read, I tend to move from books to books. I may not have the patience to finish a book from cover to cover. Somehow there is a voice inside telling me to take this step of faith and to take on this new challenge. Read more
