Life of Christ

crown of thorns and nails symbols of the Christian crucifixion in Easter
By Jamie Phuong
Prior to taking the LOC (Life of Christ) class, I had no idea what it means to be a Christian. I thought that attending church, listening to the sermons, trying to do the right thing, donating money and volunteering is how a Christian should be. I wasn’t reading the Bible because it was too confusing and hard to understand. I had no desire to read or learn it.
Taking the class helped me to learn about Jesus, the sacrifices He suffered for us, and the amazing miracles He performed. It gave me insights into who God really is, who I am in Christ, His purpose for me and how to live it out as a Christian. Throughout the course of 2½ years, God was working in me. I didn’t notice it at the time but some of the things I used to enjoy or do, I no longer care for them. He’s transformed me and is guiding me through my sanctification process. He’s revealing to me the things I needed to change about myself. He’s given me the desire to want to know Him more. Without this class I would forever stay as a baby Christian as I wouldn’t have known how to walk with Jesus. Deuteronomy 8:3 says “Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” I didn’t know what it meant before but now I know that I need to feed on His Word everyday if I want to mature in my Christian walk.
Having gone through the class gives me confidence in my identity in Christ, how to navigate through the Bible and test what is true but most importantly, to have a deeper relationship with God.
I’m so thankful and glad that Lindsey encouraged me to take this class. The book is structured with many repetitions and the course materials made it easy for me to follow. I enjoyed the class so much with Kelvin as our instructor. He’s so knowledgeable, full of wisdom and always available. Whatever question I had, he would quickly find additional info to give me more details and context to help me understand it. The class was very engaging and I got to listen and learn from everyone through the group discussions. It was great to fellowship as a class and nice to have a chance to get to know the other brothers and sisters more. It was a bittersweet end to the class as I’ll miss our time together and all the sharing.
I cannot speak enough of how great the LOC class is, but I can tell you, if you want to be transformed or experience God, I’d encourage you to take it!
