Youth News: May 2, 2019
Tuesday July 30th, 2019Hi Youth,
As we head into May, we are currently reading through the book of John in our TWA (Time with Abba). In today’s TWA we read about Jesus turning water into wine. Here’s what is mentioned in John 2:6-10…
“Six stone water jars stood nearby. The Jews used water from that kind of jar for special washings. They did that to make themselves pure and “clean.” Each jar could hold 20 to 30 gallons.
Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the top.
Then he told them, “Now dip some out. Take it to the person in charge of the dinner.”
They did what he said. The person in charge tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He didn’t realize where it had come from. But the servants who had brought the water knew. Then the person in charge called the groom to one side. He said to him, “Everyone brings out the best wine first. They bring out the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink. But you have saved the best until now.”
At the beginning of this passage we see that Jesus asked the servants to fill these six jars with water. As the servants listen to Jesus, they see that the water poured out is wine and no longer water. But this wine was not ordinary as it was tasted and labeled the best. The purpose for these water jars were for ceremonial cleansing. In Jewish customs, the Jews became ceremonially defiled during the normal circumstances of daily life and were cleansed by pouring water over their hands. What’s interesting is that Jesus used these six jars to bring about blessings for the wedding guests. In life, we need to come before Jesus and be cleansed daily because of sin. Only then can His Spirit bring out what is best. Today, take some time to humbly ask God what in your life needs cleansing. Ask and receive His goodness today Youth.
Blessings,
Sam
