As we look on the news and see the injustice taking place, there are a few responses we see from people. For today, I want to point out two unhealthy responses.

The first response can often lead to anxious thoughts, resulting in a frantic reaction. Secondly the other response is to disregard the news. Simply because of uncertainty on how to tackle the issue, the individual immediate coping mechanism is to protect oneself. However, turning an eye from issues is not the solution nor is being gullible to whatever comes our way (news, social media, and gossip). In Romans 8, Paul reminds us not to live according to the flesh with our minds and desires. Instead He is rallying the church of Rome to see life through the Spirit. I want to share this passage from 1 John 3:3-7 NIRV…

³ Christ is pure. All who hope to be like him make themselves pure.

⁴ Everyone who sins breaks the law. In fact, breaking the law is sin. ⁵ But you know that Christ came to take our sins away. And there is no sin in him. ⁶ No one who remains joined to him keeps on sinning. No one who keeps on sinning has seen him or known him.

⁷ Dear children, don’t let anyone lead you astray. The person who does what is right is holy, just as Christ is holy.

Friends and family, this is a constant reminder we need to hold on each day. When Christ came to take our sins away, Jesus freed us from the bondages of death. Remaining in His Spirit will prove towards a life of meaning. But how do we know what steps to take for this change? It’s simple, we have to remain in Christ. By remaining in Christ, we know Him well. When we study His words and spend time in fellowship with Him (whether alone or with friends/family). We rediscover the truths and promises that are meant for you and me. Not by us being deserving of His goodness, but rather it is to remember Jesus. Because it is only in Him can we remain in Truth.

1. What are ways can I be disciplined in being close to my Heavenly Father?
2. How can I start doing this?

Connect with a friend or family member in this practice and be uplifted in this endeavor. Because as we continue to see issues arise, we need to draw even closer to God. There is life through the Holy Spirit.
