Youth News: Aug. 6, 2020

Dear Youth Family & Friends!
Today I want to share a personal insight that I received from the book of Philemon.
This book is a letter from Paul written to Philemon to appeal to his runaway slave, Onesimus who is returning to him. Paul is asking Philemon to show mercy to Onesimus, not as a slave but as a beloved brother in Christ. Onesimus gave his life to Jesus upon encountering Paul and now Paul is asking him to return back to Philemon. The crazy thing is Paul knew Philemon before meeting Onesimus and this is how Paul describes Philemon at the beginning of his letter.
“I always thank my God when I pray for you, Philemon, because I keep hearing about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people. And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all of the good things we have in Christ. Your love has given me much joy and comfort, my brother, for your kindness has often refreshed the hearts of God’s people.”
Philemon 1:4-7 (NLT)
As Christians, we understand the importance of reflecting love to others. But here we have a Holy understanding of what kind of love we must carry. A love for all of God’s people. In every aspect of life, we should strive to be lovers who refresh the hearts of God’s people.
Today, take the initiative (that’s right you who are reading this!) to gather as a family or with your friends, and share with one another on where or who you need help to show love today. After sharing, pray and invite the Holy Spirit to renew your heart to give you the love you need to refresh others.
