Youth News: Apr. 4, 2019
Thursday April 4th, 2019Happy April Youth Family!
The school year is going by so quickly. Some of you are starting spring break so I would like to invite the Lord to bless you with peace and rest to finish the school year strong!
Today in our Time with Abba reading, we are introduced to Mary and Martha who are in charge of hosting Jesus and the disciples, but we see that Martha was doing her duty, while Mary went missing and was found at Jesus’ feet. Jesus also affirms Mary at this time saying that her decision was correct. This is EXTREMELY frustrating until we see what exactly Jesus was approving in Mary’s actions. Jesus says that “one thing is necessary…” not 2 or 3 things, which often consume our mind and hearts and these concerns are often valid, but only one thing is necessary. Mary invested her time in Jesus, while Martha invested in the service.
I, and possibly many of you also, can relate to Martha, doing the background needs and logistics, planning, cooking, etc. But, Jesus is offering us a moment today to just choose ONE thing to focus on for just 10 minutes.
I bless you, Youth Family, to rest in the Lord today and focus on the ONE thing which really matters.
Blessings,
Pastor David Kao

TOPIC: Why Video Games Trigger Nightly Meltdowns in Kids
The Wall Street Journal’s Julie Jargon reports:
Children and adolescents don’t yet have the capability to stop doing a rewarding activity and move on to something less fun, neurologists say. That doesn’t mean a child is addicted to videogames. Although experts say children with depression and anxiety are more prone to immerse themselves in games as a coping mechanism, it’s just generally hard for most kids to stop. There are ways for parents to hack this problem, but first, they have to understand their kids’ minds.
“What’s happening in our brains is that there are systems that evolved to sustain our interest. It will lead you to seek food for days until you find it, and that’s followed by satiety,” said Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse at the National Institutes of Health, who has studied similarities between the effects of gaming and substance abuse.
