My name is Luz Gomez. I was born and raised in Medellin, Colombia. I grew up as a Catholic and studied Catechism in Catholic School.
Chantu Lee (from our English Congregation) and I were classmates in a Human Growth and Development Class at Mission College.
We had not seen each other since we completed the class in 2014. Last year, when I was taking a walk at the Redwoods in Scotts Valley with my grandson, I ran into Chantu. We chatted about the overwhelming problems I was facing at home and work. We exchanged phone numbers. Later I called Chantu and told her I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety…my heartbeat was irregular, my mind was cloudy, my husband was also sick, my grandson was in the Intensive Care Unit, and my boss was oppressing me.
Chantu invited me to the Regional Prayer Meetings on Wednesday nights at Ada Yue’s house. I went and felt so welcome. At these meetings, I learned how to praise the Lord, confess my sins and gratefully ask God for what I need. I started attended San Jose Christian Alliance Church in January and got to know Derrick Duong through Ada. Derrick taught me how to read the Bible, meditate on God’s Words and write my daily prayers. He also prayed for my healing and my relationship with others.
I am now healed. My grandson has also recovered from his illness. My relationship with my boss has improved. My heart is calm, my mind is clear, and my spirit is strong! I felt connected to Jesus Christ and I’m thankful to God for His healing through the people He sent to help me. That is the reason I want to get baptized and commit to follow Jesus.
