He has a plan for me
Hello, my name is Abigail Ho. I am 16, currently a Junior in high school. I used to be the shyest and the least independent kid in preschool to most of my elementary school days. I cried through most of my Sunday School classes. You can probably imagine just how much I learned. I don’t have a sob story or anything that made me experience some extremely supernatural Jesus powers. The saddest thing I can say that happened to me is that I walk around like everything is fine, but deep down in my shoes my socks are slipping off. Well, all jokes aside, I’ve been reading the Bible since I was a kid, but I always thought that the Bible didn’t apply to my life. It was only as I got older that I realized God really does perform miracles in my life, He really does listen to my prayers, He does have a plan for me.
Even through small things, God showed me that He cares for me. Once, I had to walk home from my SAT prep place… (ew)… because I had no ride. On my way, I said a short prayer– just asking God to be with me. I kept walking and eventually decided to stop at Yogurtland because I felt like it. When I was at the cashier, this old man in front of me decided to pay for me. Of course, on the outside I was like “Nah, it’s ok, I can pay for myself,” but he insisted, so I got a free frozen yogurt. On the inside I was like “Yesss thank you Lord (and the old man)!” Well, God was definitely with me, even for such a small act.
Recently, with college application stuff coming up, God revealed more of His plan to me and that the Bible is very applicable in my life. I’ve known for a while that I want to do art in the future. A few months ago, I went to a portfolio day in San Francisco. It’s a day where a bunch of admission counselors from different art colleges gather together and students can get feedback for their work. Before I went, my Mom taught me how to pray using the Bible. That day, we read the story where Abraham sent his servant to find a wife for his son. The servant didn’t know how to find the right woman, so he prayed to God to show him signs. He asked God to have the chosen woman give him water to drink, and then offer water to his camel. Like the servant, I had no idea which school booth to visit. I prayed that God would give me a sign and show me where to go. Before going, I made these bento box-looking business cards to give, so I prayed that a sign would be that a counselor would say something along the lines of “I won’t throw this away” when he/she got the card. So, when I got there, I was still super confused and just walked to the end of the building. But at that booth (at the end of the building), the counselor said “Oh, I’m keeping this”… I was like “Hhmm, I think she said it.” After talking for a bit she recommended a bunch of other schools to visit, which guided me for the rest of the day.
Often times I experience God in small ways and forget them really quickly. Other times I see God do bigger miracles, but think that it wasn’t enough. Now that I understand God more, I know that He has a plan for me, He listens to my prayers, His miracles are real, and the Bible is the truth that helps us in our daily lives. Knowing and believing that, I want to receive Jesus Christ as my Savior once more– and this time, publicly follow Him in baptism.
