From Children’s Ministry to Cyber Missions
by Grace Chen
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and everyone had to shelter in place, the Children’s Ministry Department moved to cyberspace with the help of our volunteer workers. Throughout this year, we tried various formats to minister to our children. We started out before the Summer by holding weekly Time with Abba sessions. Then we held an online Kids Adventure Camp during the summer. And as the new school year began, we started a weekly evening Kids Prayer Club. Throughout this season, we’ve gathered our children online to worship every Saturday morning. We’ve even created our own YouTube channel since March. We produced various video lessons appropriate to our children for those who could not attend the weekly meetings. Consequently, we accumulated a lot of video resources and starting a couple of weeks ago, we adapted some of these videos, re-edited them into either Bible story or craft videos, adding Chinese subtitles, and broadcasted them over the internet. There are 16 such videos and they have generated about 10,000 views over the past week.
Praise God that these videos reached people even in China. Some of them participated in our activities. We encouraged the children to read either the Bible or Bible story books on a daily basis. We asked them to record the readings. After appropriate editing, we’d broadcast over Chinese language websites. Although we don’t know exactly who is watching, every time there is a click to view, we know that the Word of God has been communicated. So, even though we cannot physically go and share the Gospel at this time, but through a different medium, the Word is being proclaimed. We pray that into every ear that hears the Bible story, the Lord would plant the seed of the Gospel in the heart, yielding fruit in the proper season. We invite you to join us, reading and proclaiming His Word together.
The Word of God is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path (Ps. 119:105). Bless all of us that His Word would regenerate us daily, that we would become ambassadors of the Gospel, sharing His Word with the world.
