This summer, my oldest daughter Hana and I went to New Mexico to serve the Navajo Native Americans at a missions center run by a Korean missionary couple. We were joined by four other Korean-American churches from all over the United States–a mixture of youth, college students, and adults. I loved being around so many Koreans! We sang in Korean, heard messages in Korean, the youth called each other “oppa, unni” (older brother, older sister) and best of all, ate Korean food galore! Hi! My name is Joe, and I want to share with you about my Christian walk, and my decision to become baptized.

I was born into a Christian family, and was taught about faith and the Gospel by two awesome, Godly parents. I went to Sunday School, sang all the songs, and listened to all the teachings. After that, I went to Youth Group (E2), with big kids, big groups, and big snacks (the best part!). But in E2, my relationship with God really grew. I started to learn that life was not perfect, and that I will face problems that I would never have thought I would have faced. I also faced reality, too. My responsibilities started to grow and I had more things to do. Life wasn’t as care-free as before. My faith was starting to become challenged. It was here that I really had to trust in God. For example, I struggled with death. On the news, I heard about gruesome tragedies each day, and read about all the terrorist attacks around the world. I wondered if those things would happen to me. I remember clearly what happened last year (2016) when I almost lost Gideon, who was only 6 years old. My kids, Caleb and Gideon, were invited by some neighbor friends to go swimming. This invitation came as a great relief from the heat and boredom of summer. Since both my boys already knew how to swim and it was a small pool, I chose to sit next to the pool and watch. My older son, Caleb, briefly came out due to a bloody nose. Within a couple of minutes of getting tissue to clean up his nose, I heard Jake (a friend of theirs) say that something was also coming out of Gideon’s nose. My usual mommy thought was, “Oh my goodness, my kids are so embarrassing!” Jake told me again a second time before I decided to turn my head to Gideon, only to find him at the bottom of the 5’ pool – face down, limp, just drifting at the bottom. I immediately jumped in, somehow pushed him over and out onto the concrete, and saw that he was completely purple and unresponsive. Read more →

A magnificent view of towering redwood trees, fresh air, blue sky, and beautiful weather welcomed us into a weekend of rest. One hundred women were able to partake in delicious food, plentiful spread of snacks, wonderful worship, powerful teaching of the word of God, and much more. We were touched and transformed by the testimonies of sisters who shared their life struggles openly and transparently. Sharing our pain, sorrow, condemnation, and shame broke the lies of the enemy and ultimately pointed us back to triumphant victory in Jesus. We were invited to pour out the darkness inside our lives on the altar so that the Holy Spirit can fill us. The retreat was just the beginning in the Lord’s deep healing work. We leave the weekend full of his grace and goodness, holding on to his healing with confidence and expectation for more of his work as we walk together in this journey of faith.
