My Empower One Experience

Empower is an eight month, online course offered by Nyack College/Alliance Theological Seminary, specifically designed for women. We meet at SJCAC once a month for the live stream class. The majority of the class work is done on our own. There’s an online community of professors and classmates on the forum that can offer assistance. There’s an average of 2 books to read and 2 papers to write per month. This certificate program equips, motivates and prepares women to engage in ministry in the local church and beyond. Read more →

The Freedom of Letting Go

Over the past few years, I have come to realize just how much of an impact video games have on people. I used to be an avid gamer, playing six to eight hours of video games every day after school. Yes, I do mean every day.

Between sixth grade and my Sophomore year in high school (I’m a Senior now), I loved playing video games. It was an essential part of my day, just like caffeine is for many adults. After school, I would hop onto my bed and play whatever trendy game there was at the time. During those five years, my life was a mess. I was lonely, had few strong friendships, and felt depressed. God’s Hand on My Life

Looking back at last year, I am amazed at God’s goodness. Being a Senior in high school, that year was filled with the chaotic mess of college applications, last minute college tours, and basically, anything related to the word “college.” Admittedly, writing those applications inflicted much pain on myself and my family. I cried many buckets of tears, and I believe I may have caused my parents’ hair to turn drastically white. But nonetheless, I have to say that in the months of crafting my college essays, I realized an extraordinary truth: God’s hand always was, is, and will be on my life.
